Powers
Mutant
Power: Kinetic
Energy
Extents
(ability): Steven has the ability to
tap into the potential energy contained in objects and
turn it into kinetic energy. Allowing him to control and
manipulate this energy. Sort of. He can charge an object
in his hands and throw it with deadly accuracy. And the
charged object releases the energy explosively when it
hits something.
He can delay an explosion for 5 seconds to 2 minutes and
can charge any object roughly the size of a marble to the
size of a watermelon. Unfortunately, Steven does not have
this power completely under his control. When he's upset,
nervous, scared or angry, he will accidentally charge
anything he's touching. And he does not know how to
change the kinetic energy back into the harmless energy
it was before. So once he's charged something, it will
explode.
What do
you think of your mutant ability:
Personality
Psychological
Background: A private person, Steve hates being in the
public eye and has gone to great lengths in the past to
avoid reporters and cameras. Fun loving though, he wants
to be able to enjoy himself before he's forced to decide
how to live his life. He resents his parent's political
careers, and the way they treated him. He wants most to
be able to live his life by his own rules and had chafed
at the restrictions they placed on him. On they're trying
to make him live up to the images that they want him to
uphold. Resents their trying to force him to be the
person they've decided he WILL be. Not the person he is.
And hates them for not loving him just because he's their
son. And of his parents, he fears his father the most.
Personality
Quirks: Collects Japanese weapons and swords,
enjoys martial arts, avoids cameras, loathes reporters,
loves snowstorms
History
General
History: Born
on February 22, Steven has spent his entire life being
shoved in front of cameras by his parents to further
their political careers. Being paraded around by them as
the All-American boy. As an image to the world, part of
their perfect little family. And they put a lot of
pressure on Steven and their other children. They expect
nothing but the best from all of them. The best behavior,
the best grades, the best sports performance. All so that
they can trot their children out to show what a perfect
family they are and how they deserve people's votes. And
if they didn't rise to their parent's expectations, they
could expect to be beaten for their failure.
Steven is 8 years younger than his sister. And, in the
words of his own parents to him, an accident. Serious
politicians, his parents only had their elder children
because politicians with family seemed to be more
popular, especially in rural areas. But after getting
pregnant, well his mother certainly couldn't have an
abortion. That would ruin their political careers.
Especially with her campaigning against abortions.
His father is a politician who is currently running for
Presidency of the USA. Running on an Anti-mutant
Campaign. He feels he has a great chance to win, as long
as his personal bodyguards are able to keep any mutants
from trying to assassinate him or members of his family.
Steven's mother is a lobbyist for old-fashioned family
morals. Both his parents are prejudiced against anyone
who isn't a straight, well off, white Roman Catholic. To
say their slightly racist, moral snobs would be like
saying the Pope is slightly Catholic.
Steven's brother, Alexander the 5th, is a serious young
man who is almost as ambitious as their parents. He
managed well enough in their home growing up and is now a
rising young star in the justice system as a lawyer.
Though he refuses to use either of his two young sons in
the way their parents used him to further his career.
Just like he refused to name either of the boys
Alexander John Kenton the 6th. A fact that has infuriated
his parents. But now that he is well away from them, he
needn't fear punishment. And he has as little to do with
them as possible.
His sister Emily used to rebel against the family in
small ways. She took up smoking, ditched a couple of
classes and swiped a few things from stores. Now living
in Boston, she's attending Harvard to get a doctor's
degree, she's engaged. She's much happier herself living
away from reporters and demanding parents.
Steven however, seems to have been born to
go against EVERYTHING his parents stand for. He loathes
being shoved in front of cameras. Hates being expected to
be perfect all the time in everything he did. And doesn't
like his parents looking down their noses at anyone they
consider beneath them. He hates being dragged off to
state parties to dance with the latest girl from one of
the 'right' families his parents tried to force him into
dating.
Steven took up smoking like his sister had, got a tattoo
using a fake id and a tattoo artist willing to pretend
that was his right age in return for the money. And got
himself kicked out of three private schools despite good
grades and being a track star. Forcing his father to pay
out big bucks to keep it quiet what he'd done. His
father's frustration grew towards his youngest child. The
child they hadn't really wanted. The beatings Steven
suffered grew worse. Tell he was beating Steven at the
slightest provocation, though he's always careful not to
hit him on the face, arms, or legs. Wouldn't do for a
reporter to find out. And Steven, despite the training he
had in martial arts, wasn't able to protect himself from
his father. He was so much smaller than Alexander, and
his father had training in martial arts too.
Then two years ago, Steven's mutant powers surfaced. His
father was yelling at him, Steven was terrified of what
he knew was coming, and the ball he'd been holding
dropped from his hand, a weak explosion destroying the
ball and blackening the floor beneath it when it hit.
That day was the first and last time Alexander struck
Steven across the face, knocking his son out.
Steven woke later half drugged out of his mind and to
dizzy to even try to call on his fledgling power to help
him. Strapped down so that he couldn't even move to try
to struggle. His parents, disgusted by the revelation
that they had spawned a mutant had called in a trusted
friend of his father. A man that owed his career, and
chance to abuse any captured mutants in experiments, to
Alexander. Bruce Anders would help them contain Steven
until they could get rid of him. And wouldn't betray
their secret to anyone.
And Bruce built a power dampening devise right onto
Steven's right wrist so that he wouldn't be able to
remove it. Badly burning Steven's wrist as he soldered
parts of the 'bracelet' into place. It was a small mercy
when Steven passed out from the pain. He was sick with
pain for a long time after before the severe burns on his
wrist finally started to slowly heal. Steven was very
closely guarded by Alexander's men after that. As
Alexander claimed the extra security was to protect his
son from death threats made by mutants.
Steven knew what was coming. He realized his parents were
planning on having him killed at the first opportunity.
Probably in a way that they could use public sympathy to
ensure that his father would win the Presidency he's now
running for.
So two months ago, Steven packed his book bag and stole
all the money that was in the wall safe in his father's
office. Then he ran away, fleeing from his parents. Using
the money to get out of Chicago. He's been living on the
streets since, looking over his shoulder as he tries to
survive. Knowing his parents, who have claimed he's been
kidnapped are still looking for him to finish him off.
The bracelet still attached to his wrist since he can't
remove it, which means he can't even access his power
still.
