Mutant

Extents
(ability): If he can get his hands on it or his arms
around it, he can lift it. Exactly how much hasn't
been fully determined, but he can't lift up a house for
example, but might be able to tear up a good amount of
flooring if he tries
What do
you think of your mutant ability: He finds it useful
at times, but he's rather used to hiding it, having seen
the consequences of what happens when he doesn't
Personality
Psychological
Background: He's protective to the nth degree, and
tends to flip out at any threat to his siblings.
When they're safe and secure, he's friendly and
affectionate. He's "Mr. Responsibility and
Organization." He's also a story teller, he's
got a story for everything, most of them having
happened to him or around him (fortunately or
unfortunately, depending on the story). Pretty
optimistic, always looking for the bright side.
Marissa, Joey and Christian may be his half siblings, but
he doesn't believe in the title "half".
Family is family.
Personality
Quirks: Refuses to drive anything but a
standard, believing an automatic isn't a "real
car," works out almost neurotically (having had to
hide his mutation for all his life, he's come to the
realization that his physique should at least look like
it matches whatever strength he inadvertantly displays in
the real world), he personally doesn't hold grudges, but
holds them for other people. his mother taught him
how to play piano, and he's actually quite good, but he
vehemently denies it when asked, thinking it bad for
whatever "image" he thinks he has
History
General
History: Nate is the oldest of the dysfunctional
family, being born to Heather when she was only 15, no
more than a child herself. He learned quickly that
someone had to be the adult in the household, and that he
would be it, because his mother was incapable of
it. Before he was ten years old, he was the head
chef, human laundromat and main grocery shopper for the
family. Heather would regularly disappear for days
at a time with whatever man she was with at the time, and
come home only to tell them they were moving from one
urban housing project to another urban housing project,
usually in another state.
He spent every hour of every day
until he was 22 making sure his sisters were fed, clothed
and went to school. He started working when he was
13, and prided himself on at least getting a high school
education. College was out, there just wasn't
time. He couldn't leave his sisters alone in
whatever place they were living at after all. The
only time he left his sisters alone was when he was
nineteen, he had found one of his mother's boyfriends
going after one of his sisters, and got violent, nearly
killing the man. The judge showed sympathy and he
got a year in prison, six months with good
behavior. Nate never let on that the reason the man
was hurt so severely was because he was a mutant, he knew
that would only make things worse.
Then,
when he was twenty two, he went into his mothers room to
wake her up for her job, only to find she couldn't wake
up. Heather had finally drank herself to death
after months of insisting she was "fine."
Now Nate really was the head of the family. Unlike
his mother, he didn't move the family out of Phoenix and
instead stayed, paying off Heather's debts as best he
could and trying to find the youngest, whom Heather had
abandoned twelve years ago, without success.
When Joey's mutation was exposed in a destructive way,
Nate was fired from his job. He did some research
and discovered the Northern Lights Academy, and sent his
baby sister there for her protection and education and he
himself moved to LA. Then came the phone call that
not only had Joey's boyfriend nearly killed her, but the
missing brother had been found and was there. With
Marissa in tow, Nate went to Alaska to fix his sister's
life and to meet the brother who didn't know him.
Special
Notes: The second oldest, Marissa, is not a
mutant.
