Powers

Mutant Power: Persuasion and Hypnosis

Extents (ability): His psychic abilities include the ability to persuade someone to do what he wants.  Its not brain washing, for it works on the deepest needs or fears in a person, its more psychic manipulation.  He also possesses the ability to hypnotize a person with his voice, and often uses this to make people who have seen his face forget that they have.  Hypnosis can be undone, and the persuaded can be dissuaded by another person possessing psychic abilities.

Personality

Psychological Background: He is bitter toward the world that has rejected him, and at times hunted him.  Stubborn, a bit of a control freak to the things that he has control over, possessive over what it his.

Personality Quirks: Is never without his mask, even sleeps with it on.  Allows no mirrors wherever he is and has been known to cover any reflective surface with cloth.

History

General History: He has no knowledge of who his parents were. He was born with his facial disfigurement, and as best he can tell, was sold or perhaps given (he doesn't know) to a traveling carnival of oddities.  In this carnival he wasn't treated humanely, and was advertised as 'The Devil's Child,' and kept in a cage.  Named Erik by his parents before his birth, he was rarely called this by the people in the carnival.  His appearance shocked even the most jaded carnie.  People would pay money to pass by the cage, where the carnival master would tear off the sack he kept over his face so people could stare at him.  He was never educated, or taught to speak, everything he learned up until the age of twelve he learned on his own or picked up.   He taught himself to read and write, and in the carnival's travels picked up several languages enough to get by in conversation.

When he was twelve, a man came to the carnival.  This man would regularly visit carnivals of that type to liberate those who were being kept against their will, like this boy.  This man's name was Charles Xavier, who helped free him.  He took the boy back to Westchester and educated him.  Erik kept to himself, to the shadows, and made few friends.  Because his appearance had little to do with his mutation, he believed himself a freak even among other freaks.

As his classmates graduated and became X-Men, Erik grew restless, and left the Westchester School, going to New York, where he hid out in the archives of the Metropolitan Opera House and ghost wrote several pieces of work.  As only the caretaker of the House had ever seen him, and was sworn to silence, he was nicknamed 'Phantom,' and feared.  Erik didn't mind, still keeping to himself.  He felt that it was actually better to be feared than loathed.  In fact, he got a kick out of the fact that he could get almost anything he wanted by leaving mysterious letters about, and the fact that the managers would pay a salary to someone who wasn't supposed to exist.

Soon he was secretly tutoring several of the students he felt were exceptionally gifted at their crafts, but even they never saw him.  They called him 'The Angel.'  He spent several years like that, until one young woman especially caught his eye and he found himself using his powers on her for the first time.  But even his vast powers couldn't keep her in his thrall after she saw his face, and he was cruelly rejected.  He snapped, unable to take this final rejection when at last he thought he had found something good in someone.  As controlling as ever, a series of small "accidents" occurred, finally cumulating in a tragedy as the Metropolitan Opera House was burned to the ground after a final attempt to convince the woman to love him failed.

Erik escaped all prosecution, for most refused to admit he existed at all.  Xavier found his former student and Erik agreed to go back to the school's shelter, but not the Westchester School.  Instead he arranged to go to the Northern Lights Academy where he resides in a series of rooms on the lowest levels, by choice.
