Personality

Psychological Background: Every once in a while, the happy go lucky girl she used to be shines through in her smile or her laughter, but lately she's been serious, with no real reason to be happy.  Even with all that, she's an optimist. Still in therapy because of her father's death, and she finds it easier to deal with every day.

Personality Quirks: Hates the name Brenda and goes by a shortened version of her middle name. Must drink large amounts of orange juice in the morning in order to feel human, smokes but even at 19 hides it from her mother and the rest of her family, bites her nails

History

General History: Born to Miguel and Emily Santiago, Emmy missed out on being the baby of the family by mere minutes, being twelve minutes older than her twin. Miguel and Emily lived in a poor section of Detroit, in a neighborhood made up of more Mexican/Spanish, making life for Emily a bit hard being about the only white person in the neighborhood.

Miguel meeked out an honest living working at Great Lakes Steele in River Rogue. His job never allowed the family to move out of Detroit, but kept them off welfare.

They were a very religious family, going to church every Sunday, believing God helped provided for them and their kids. The Santiago kids were good kids, until Brad got mixed up with a bad scene.  Emmy had no idea what was going on with her twin, and he wouldn't talk to her.  All she could do was stand there and watch as his life went to hell, until he finally left when he was fifteen, addicted to drugs, a member of a gang, and a mutant.  Emmy grieved for the loss of her brother, for they had been close growing up.

Then two years later Brad returned, still addicted, still in trouble, but at least he was back.  The whole family tried to get him help, and he repaid them by stealing from them to support his drug habit.

Then came the fateful night when the family staged an intervention to force him into getting help.  Emmy watched as her beloved father and her formerly mild mannered twin get into an argument that only ended when Miguel was dead, killed by his youngest son.  Brad didn't run this time, but waited for the cops and the ambulances to show up, going with them willingly a nd serving his sentence until he was released on conditions.

Emmy on the other hand, having witnessed the whole thing, had a breakdown.  One of the ambulances was for her, for she couldn't stop screaming, and didn't stop screaming for days.  She spent a couple of weeks in a mental hospital to recover, upon release it was advised she not see her brother.

She tried to break that once or twice, but Brad wouldn't see her and she gave up.  She became quiet and withdrawn for a time, the remaining members of her family helped her through it.  Now, after hearing how her brother has gotten his act together, she'd like to see it for herself.
