Extents
(ability): A young Empath/telepath,
Dale can broadcast his own feelings, or even sense
other's feelings and thoughts as easily as others
breathe. However, if exposed to extremely strong, dark
emotions, he can get lost in the other person's feelings.
Taking on their dark emotions and losing his 'self' in
those dark thoughts/feelings. His telepathy is so strong,
that he unconsciously radiates his own feelings a couple
of feet, meaning anyone near the teenager is wrapped in a
subtle cloak of whatever emotions he is projecting when
around him. He is also able to sense the life force of
anyone within a 10-ft radius of him. With his telepathic
abilities, he can 'lash out' mentally at people's minds.
His mental 'daggers' vary in what strength he wants them
to have.
They can either cause a person pain, or knock them out.
Knocking someone out though takes more energy out of Dale
then merely causing them pain and he can only knock out
up to 5 or 6 people per hour.
As yet, Dale has not found a limit to his telepathic
range. Of course, he's never really tried to test his
limits. When he has concentrated, he has always been able
to connect with his father's mind or the minds of those
he cares about.
With his telekinesis, Dale can lift, with his mind alone,
about 300 lb. A little over twice his own weight.
However, attempting to lift much more than this with his
telekinesis has thus far only served to strain this power
and render it useless for 48 hours. Using his
telekinesis, Dale can lift himself up and use it to fly.
What do
you think of your mutant ability:
Personality
Psychological
Background: Educated and well off, young Dale knows he
doesn't want for anything financially. And probably
never will. But the sweet natured boy is extremely lonely
and unsure of himself around others. Separated from
others all his life not only by his powers, but by his
disabilities as well. His father is overly protective and
kept Dale apart from everyone but those he approved of,
and also contributed to his loneliness by accident. A
pacifist by nature, Dale doesn't like the idea of
fighting. Even if he is willing to admit there's a need
for it he usually looks for some other means to avoid
injuring others. Innocent and trusting, he is a shy young
man, who is caring, warm and polite towards others.
Personality
Quirks: Carries around a note pad and pencil so
that he can at least communicate with people if they
don't know sign language, and he can't use telepathy on
them. Is mildly addicted to Cherry lollipops, popsicles,
and orange Gatorade.
History
General
History:On
Oct 27, two weeks before the due date, Dale's parents, on
the way to the hospital for a regular check up, were
crossing the street when a drunk driver ran the red light
and broad sided their car. Given they were nearly at the
hospital already, the ambulance arrived in record time.
Kevin's leg was broken in the accident but his wife,
whose side of the car had been struck sustained mortal
injuries. Despite all that the doctors tried to do, it
soon became obvious that she was dying and there was
nothing they could do to prevent it. To save her unborn
child, the doctors performed an emergency C-section.
Grieving for his lost wife, and left with a tiny infant
to care for, Kevin named the baby after his mother, as a
tribute to the woman he had so loved and raised the boy
as best he could. Dale was a lot like his mother
and soon became the centre of his father's life.
Determined to give his son the best of everything, and
unable to deal well with his wife's death, Kevin began
burying himself deeper into his work.
All that Kevin had left of his wife, Dale's
father made sure that his child wanted for nothing. But
at the age of three, Dale caught Haemophilus influenzae,
a type of bacterial meningitis. By the time his father
realized that Dale didn't just have some childhood flu,
the boy was very, very sick. And although Dalesurvived,
he was permanently struck deaf by the illness. Losing his
hearing at such an early age, Dale has never learned how
to speak either. Soon losing what speaking skills he'd
started learning and is thus also mute.
It was when Dale was 5 that his mutant powers, empathy
and telepathy finally emerged. Surfaced while the boy was
trying to explain something to his father who just could
not make out what Dale was signing. Growing more and more
frustrated and upset, his telepathy awoke within giving
him the opportunity he needed to 'talk' to his father.
Realizing his son was a mutant, and that there would be
those out to kill Dale, Kevin became even more protective
of his young son. He hired private tutors and gained new
servants. Ones he made sure were not mutant haters. Kevin
let no one near his only
child without first doing a very thorough check on them
to be sure they were no threat to his son. Isolating Dale
from everyone that did not meet his approval. He did this
not only to protect Dale from mutant haters, but to also
protect his young son from
the filth some people's minds contain. To protect Dale
from the darker thoughts and feelings his son might pick
up.
So while Kevin was making sure his son was completely
sheltered and protected, he inadvertently also made Dale
extremely lonely and shy. Not at all sure how to make
friends or how to act around other people outside of his
father and servants. Not that he got to see his father
very often as Kevin was away on business most of the
time.
As Dale's mental powers grew, and his other powers
emerged with adolescence, Kevin tried on his own with his
employees to teach Dale control of his abilities. He was
having, perhaps, some tiny amount of success. At least in
his mind. But during his travels, Kevin had recently met
another woman. And while she didn't make him feel the
same as his first wife had, Kevin did fall in love with
her.
Having not wanted to upset Dale, with the idea that he
might have competition for his father's attention, Kevin
hadn't told his young son about the lady he was
seeing. So when he decided to marry her, Dale was
completely caught off guard and unprepared for suddenly
finding himself with a step-mother who was only 9 years
older than him.
Worse, Dale knows that Kevin's new wife, Karen cares
nothing for his father. That she's interest only in his
father's money. But his father, thinking Dale's only
jealous and scared of losing his father, has been
dismissing Dale's warnings while Karen subtly tries to
drive a wedge between father and son in an attempt to get
Dale cut out of his father's will.
It doesn't help that Karen was pretending to try and make
overtures to Dale when ever Kevin might be near enough to
see her 'attempts' to befriend his son. With the birth of
her son by Kevin, Karen saw a way to drive a deeper wedge
between father and elder son. Knowing Dale was a mutant,
and knowing that the boy's other abilities were newly
emerged, Karen destroyed
Matthew's bedroom. And lead Kevin to believe that Dale,
in his jealousy, had used his telekinesis to do the
damage done to her son's room.
While Kevin doubted Dale would do something like that on
purpose, he believed his son may have done it by
accident. Dale's telepathy had increased recently in
power, and his other powers had emerged. And Dale did not
have very good control over his new and strengthened
abilities. Convincing Kevin that Dale needed help to
learn control of his powers, Karen got her husband to
agree to send Dale away to where he could learn the
control he did not have. Believing he was doing right by
his sons, Kevin agreed.
